Southbank Sinfonia is a groundbreaking new orchestra, providing the countrys finest young players with the additional opportunities they need to fulfil their potential as the leading musicians of the future. Tonights concert is full of adventure and takes us from Rossinis sparkling exotic setting to Mozarts Austria, via an American cityscape.

A CELEBRATION OF MOZART AT BOURNE PARK, BRIDGE

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Mozarts birth, Deal Festival hosts a unique event in the UKs celebratory calendar in the very house that Mozart stayed when he visited England: Bourne Park. The owners have most graciously allowed the festival to host education events and concerts in their exquisite home.

 

RACHEL PODGER AND CHORISTERS OF CANTERBURY CATHEDRAL

Young people from invited schools can hear Rachel Podger and Gary Cooper, choristers of Canterbury Cathedral and The Mozart Now Ensemble play music composed by the young prodigy, some in the very room that Mozart would have played himself.

This celebrated duo gives a charity concert in aid of Cantoris Charitable Trust, a bursary for the choristers at Canterbury Cathedral. The programme includes Mozarts Sonata K.13, written just prior to his visit as a boy of nine. The audience will, of necessity, be limited to only 40. Tickets (concert with dinner) are strictly by application to the festival administrator.

In the exquisite setting of the gardens of Bourne Park, set against a stunning backdrop of pergolas and roses, four of the countrys most talented young singers join forces with leading period instrumentalists and three choristers from Canterbury Cathedral. They perform a selection of works by Mozart, including passages from Die Zauberflte, Cosi fan Tutte, Il Re Pastore and Le Nozze di Figaro.

THE KINGS SINGERS

The sounds of clashing swords, drums and battles, of ticking clocks and alarms, nonsense words, pastoral lyrics, all mixed with music from the middle ages to The Beatles and all produced by six voices! For more than 30 years the Kings Singers have been delighting audiences around the world with their charm, wit and incomparable musicianship. Tonights colourful programme brings works from all the corners of Europe.

Artist Ray Wilkinson leads a visual education project on Time Piece the results of which will be screened during the concert.
